Adjustment to Service Charges

The IDS Board of Directors voted to amend the service charges for shipping penalties.  In the past, members were charged $23.00 per infraction plus UPS fees for address corrections and $25.00 per infraction plus UPS charges for all other penalties.

Effective June 2012, the service charge structure was changed to a flat $25.00 service charge per monthly invoice plus UPS charges related to each infraction.  This means that a library will only be charged one $25.00 fee per monthly invoice, rather then a service fee for each penalty.

As stated in the IDS User Manual, Members should consult with this checklist to avoid penalties:

  • Does your package meet the 30 lb. maximum weight limit?
  • Does your package meet the size limit? If the cubic size in inches is less than 5,184, use the actual weight of the package.
  • Is the address current?  IDS wold like to remind members that the most accurate place for member addresses is the IDS Member Directory.  IDS does not use other directories such as Access PA, Illiad, etc.  If a member library chooses to ship to a non-member PA library, they run the risk of being charged for address corrections, as IDS has no way of verifying the address.
  • Is the item being shipped via “ground” service?
  • Does the item being shipped exceed the $100.00 maximum value?

If your package DOES NOT meet the IDS requirements above or requires special handling such as Next Day or Second Day Air, it must be shipped by some other method such as regular UPS, U.S.Postal Service, or another carrier.
